Put your site on your own domain
On Starter, Pro and Business you can serve a site from your own domain with free, automatic SSL. It takes two DNS records and usually a few minutes.
Connect a domain
- Open Domains in the dashboard, choose the site, type the domain (
example.com) and click Add. Fylo registers bothexample.comandwww.example.com. - At your DNS provider (where you bought the domain, or Cloudflare if you moved DNS there) add these two records:
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| CNAME | @ |
fylo.host |
| CNAME | www |
fylo.host |
- Back in Domains, click Verify. When DNS has updated, the domain turns active and an SSL certificate is issued automatically. This usually takes a few minutes and can take up to a few hours with slow DNS providers.
Remove any old A, AAAA or CNAME records for @ and www first — two answers for the same name is the most common reason verification fails.
If your provider won't accept a CNAME on the root
Some DNS providers refuse a CNAME for @. Use their ALIAS, ANAME or CNAME flattening record type pointing at fylo.host instead — it does the same job. If they offer none of these, move the domain's DNS to Cloudflare (free), which flattens root CNAMEs automatically, and add the two records there. Your domain registration stays where it is.
If you use Cloudflare DNS, set both records to DNS only (grey cloud).
www or non-www
Choose the address you prefer in Domains. The other form redirects to it, and the preferred one is used as the canonical URL, in QR codes and in share links.

A domain with its www form counts as one. Each domain points to one site.
Removing a domain, and what happens if a plan ends
Remove detaches the domain immediately; the site stays online at its Fylo subdomain. When a paid plan ends, custom domains are detached automatically after a 7-day grace period. Re-adding a domain later uses the same two DNS records.
Troubleshooting
- "Domain already in use" — it is attached to another Fylo site or account. Remove it there first.
- Stuck on pending — check the records with
dig example.com CNAMEor an online DNS checker; they must point tofylo.hostand nothing else. - Certificate warning right after verifying — the certificate is still being issued; give it a few minutes.
- Email stops working — it shouldn't: these records don't touch
MX. If your provider's root ALIAS replaces other root records, keep yourMXandTXTrecords as they were.
From an AI app
With the MCP server connected, "connect example.com to my portfolio site" registers the domain and gives you the records; you still add them at your DNS provider yourself.
